My Approach

Solving HR issues for small businesses is my passion. I do this by bringing my years of experience to the table, listening to business owners and Directors to understand the business perspective as well as the people perspective, before outlining the options open to the business to resolve the issue. I provide thorough analysis of the situation, based on a detailed knowledge of employment law, and explain the risks and benefits associated with the different resolution paths.

To me, the role of HR partner to a small business is to take potentially messy and emotionally charged situations, identify the facts and the practical considerations, and provide the business with clarity and confidence about the steps needed to secure the best possible outcome.

I also appreciate the huge value-add that well designed and delivered HR initiatives can offer businesses in the areas of organisational development, Human Resource Management, job satisfaction and motivation of employees, and the resulting benefits of increased performance and productivity in your workforce.

HR should be:

  • Commercially focused

  • Pragmatic and realistic

  • A facilitator for strong business performance

HR should not be:

  • Impractical

  • Overly risk averse

  • A blocker to meeting the needs of the business

My Experience

I am a versatile HR professional with almost 20 years experience in various industries and sectors. The first 13 years of my HR career was spent in-house at several SME and corporate companies, before I moved to an independent HR Consultancy who primarily offer HR services to small and medium sized businesses. With a master’s degree in Human Resource Management, I am able to draw on strong technical skill and broad experience to design innovative and creative HR solutions that deliver on business needs.

Having worked across a variety of sectors including Finance, Creative, Facilities Management, Digital, Marketing, Logistics, Retail, Technology, Manufacturing and Public Sector, I am well versed in supporting many different types of organisation and workforce.

Through my HR career I have managed numerous restructuring and redundancy exercises, from single site closures and small scale reductions through to one of the largest restructures in UK corporate history with Tesco. I have managed large scale TUPE contracts in highly unionised environments, conducted negotiations with trade unions and managed collective bargaining agreements. I also have significant experience managing the full range of complex disciplinary and grievance cases, including Employment Tribunals and Settlement Agreements.

I have produced bespoke policies, processes and HR documentation for many businesses of varying size. I have worked closely with business owners and Directors to ensure that their HR approach supports their strategic goals and ambitions.

My specialisms include employment law, performance management, professional competency frameworks and people manager capability and I have designed and delivered various training materials and initiatives to address a wide range of business requirements.

After taking some time out to start a family I set up Pondcroft Consulting to continue doing what I love - providing HR Consultancy services to help business owners manage and grow their businesses.
